Mission

The mission of the Asia-Pacific Society for Prevention Research is to advance research on the etiology and prevention of health and behavioural problems in the Asia-Pacific region.

The Society seeks to promote and encourage collaboration among prevention researchers, students, researchers, practitioners and policy-makers in the region, and to develop new opportunities to share knowledge and raise the profile of prevention activities throughout the region.

Values

  • The context of health and behavioural problems vary to a great degree amongst countries in the Asia-Pacific, and members from these countries are best positioned to lead prevention efforts

  • Prevention science should strive for equitable health and behavioural outcomes for all members of society.

  • Scientific, evidence-based programs, strategies, and practices should be adapted, implemented and disseminated to support efforts for preventing health and behaviour problems in the Asia-Pacific, and to promote global health and positive human development

  • Prevention researchers, students, practitioners and policy-makers are members of multiple networks that are broader than any single country or society. Their skills and knowledge can contribute to better health and behavioural outcomes globally.

Objectives

  • Support and encourage communication and collaboration between prevention researchers, practitioners, policy-makers and students living and working in the countries in the Asia-Pacific region.

  • Promote initiatives and activities that aim to prevent health and behaviour problems in the Asia-Pacific.

  • Encourage activities that recognise the diversity of prevention needs and activities in the Asia-Pacific region, and raise the profile of these activities locally and throughout the region.

  • Create opportunities for interaction and collaboration through conferences, workshops, visits, symposiums.
